The Pontardawe Inn locally know as the Gwachel (Hidden). The name comes from the road side sign outside the pub which said Hidden Dip, as it was next to a ford across the river Tawe before the bridge was built.
The pub has had a number of owners in the last few decades. Buckley's Brewery, Pontardawe Festival, Peter & Carol Clayton, Celtic Inn and now Marstons PLC.

The Pontardawe Inn has been selected as the Neath & Port Talbot CAMRA's pub of the year again. Coming 2nd 2013, 1st 2014, 1st 2015, 1st 2016 & 2017. Also winning Jack Swan Barmaid and Barman of the year and Pub Curry of the Year. Marston's Entertainment pub of the Year 2017 South Region Finalists in the Swansea Bay Tourist Awards.
The Pub is Home to Pontardawe Town FC Welsh League Side. We have a number of groups meeting at the pub, Rotary Club, Round Table, Inner Wheel, Swansea Valley Railway Society, Pontardawe Running Club, Cwmtawe Cycle Club, Pontardawe Towns Women, Gigs Y Gwach Welsh Music, Cwmtawe 7's. Fortnight Pub Quiz on a Tuesday from 8pm. Monthly Charity Quiz on a Sunday. This Year we have helped raise money for PANTY - Foodbank, Epilepsy Action, Macmillan Cancer Support, Pontardawe Youth Club, Royal British Legion and Help for Heros.
